2011 |
A week in Fiji at Wananavu Resort. All about diving. |
2010 |
Three weeks in New York, USA and three cities in Canada. Going to Toronto for the wedding of our elder daughter Karla to her partner of ten years, Bec, we also visited Montreal and Quebec City. Niagara Falls was also on our itinerary. |
2008 |
Two and a half weeks in Vietnam in October. Rather rushed but we visited Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hue and Hoi An. Too little time to see such a beautiful country but it gave us some inkling of where we will visit the next time we travel. Less of the cities and more of the inland countryside ... |
2008 |
Two weeks in Thailand. We spent a day in Phuket before catching the ferry to Phi Phi Don where we spent most of our time diving. |
2007 |
We decided to relocate from Western Australia to Queensland in 2007. This meant a great deal of our time was spent travelling between the two States. We eventually settled on Macleay Island, one of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands near Brisbane. Click here for our first impressions, our land purchases and where we eventually settled in 2008. |
2006 |
Two months in India. We concentrated mainly on the north of this colourful country, flying into Delhi before heading to Rajasthan for a month. With a few days in Agra to see the Taj and Fatephur Sikri, we flew across the country to the mountainous region of Sikkim, squashed between Nepal and Bhutan. Finding that winter had come in early and that trekking was going to be difficult, we headed towards the sun and the sea ... Goa. |
2005 |
We went to London to see our eldest son Doug and his partner Melissa. After a week there, we flew to Spain for a few weeks with our eldest daughter Karla and her partner Bec. We also managed to fit in a week in Morocco before heading back to Spain again. After this, we caught up with an old friend Stephanie and her family in France before catching a train to Paris. We flew from Paris via Singapore to Perth in mid October 2005. |
2004 |
Just for a change, we remained in Australia for most of 2004, taking up a 5 month contract working for Way Out West Cinemas (WOW), a fledgling company formed with the concept of taking new release movies to mines and remote communities in the outback of Western Australia. With a huge inflatable screen (14m x 8m), we toured our way around Western Australia with WOW from Mt Barker in the South to Port Hedland in the North. Finding it a little too arduous for our not-so-young bodies, we have decided to spend our time on other adventures. |
2003/ 2004 |
We spent two and a half months in Jordan and Egypt. We found the people of the Middle East generous, kindly and happy to see us. Perfectly safe, we can recommend these two countries, not only as places of great historical interest but also of natural beauty and amazing people.
We have done lots of travelling in Australia but I haven't documented all the trips. We have a special love for Pemberton in the south-west of Western Australia and have enjoyed walking the Bibbulman Track. In August 2003, we took a few weeks to traverse the Great Central Road through Western Australia and the Northern Territory in our Toyota Landcruiser, driving from Perth to Uluru and Alice Springs into the Red Centre of Australia. In 2005 we finally made it to Cairns in Northern Queensland. |
2002 |
We experienced a cruise in the lap of luxury on the QE II. We travelled from Perth, Western Australia to Osaka Japan with stops at Padang Bay in Bali, Manila in the Phillippines and Kagoshima in Kyushu, southern Japan. |
2002 |
In February/March we visited Japan. We stayed in Honshu for two weeks and used the Japan Rail Pass to explore around the Inland Sea. Japan is certainly a different experience from the wilds of Africa and we enjoyed the contrast. Japan is a very expensive destination but we found ways to counter this, eating in small cafes and local pubs and staying in small hotels near the railway stations. |
2001 |
Travelling through East Africa with two friends - nothing planned ahead of time - we simply arrived in a place and found somewhere to stay, then went on from there. We lived in budget accommodation some of the time and at others splurged on luxury accommodation. We travelled by air, train, road and ferry. More than anything else, we met the people of East Africa and they befriended us. |
1995 - 2007 |
A popular destination of ours is Bali, an island in the Indonesian Archipelago. Journey with us to the Island of the Gods and see why it attracts so many people from all over the world. We have been to Bali so many times that I have put up pages of different destinations or places we visited, not necessarily in date order. We have also spent some time on neighbouring Lombok. And in a different country but the same tropical island scenery, Penang also has a special place in our hearts. |
