MACLEAY ISLAND - OUR ISLAND HOME

Guy and I moved to Queensland in 2008. In May 2007, we spent four days on Russell and MacLeay Islands, south of Brisbane in Moreton Bay, checking out real estate. The result was that we bought 3 blocks and a cottage on Macleay Island, plus a block for our son Daniel on neighbouring Russell Island. When we moved to Macleay Island in 2008, we bought another house in Noon-Muckle Street.
Where are Russell and MacLeay Islands?
They are in Moreton Bay, just south of Brisbane and protected by the larger North Stradbroke Island to the east. Click on the photos for larger images. There are four islands in the Bay Island group - these two plus smaller Lamb and Karragarra Islands.

Our blocks on Macleay Island are on Timothy Street and Betty Street. We have water frontage on Timothy Street, where we eventually plan to build and Betty Street has a small house (shack) and two blocks of land, near water access, where we plan to build two holiday rentals in the dim and distant future when we have some money. In the meantime, we plan to renovate the shack and rent it out.
We are currently living in Noon-Muckle Street, a house we bought in 2008.

NOON-MUCKLE STREET

This is our house on Noon-Muckle Street on the western side of the island. As you can see from the photos below, there are a great many trees which surround our house and the birdlife has to be seen and heard to be believed. We have views of Moreton Bay from our top deck, although not as spectacular as those from Timothy Street.

TIMOTHY STREET
TIMOTHY STREET (above and left)
Timothy St is a 800-odd sq metre block running right down to the water. It's pretty steep, so we plan to build a home hanging out over the cliff, with big balconies. It faces north into Perulpa Bay, which is a large bay, lovely when the tide is in but mud flats when it's not. (We still get views of the ocean beyond the Bay.)
BETTY STREET (below and right)
This is an old farmhouse on two separate titled blocks. The farmhouse is demo material but we plan to renovate it and hopefully rent it out to holiday makers. Then we hope to build another holiday house on the adjoining block, with the idea that these holiday rentals on the island will support our retirement. The blocks have no water views but are about 100m from a beach and boat landing slip.
